For my podcast „Die Boss“, we wanted to invite female leaders from all kind of industries and areas of society. For me, this also makes the podcast an excellent opportunity to learn more about professions I am not familiar with. The episode with Professor Dr. med. Doris Henne-Bruns is a great example for one of those meetings. In 2001, she was appointed as full professor for surgery – as the first woman in Germany. And she is still the only woman in this position today. Medical science is quite a foreign field for me and personally, I always feel a little on edge whenever I enter any hospital. But in our interview, Doris Henne-Bruns did a great job of showing me the exciting aspects of the field. She is convinced that empathy is key in being successful in a medical profession – and believes that it is easier for women to be emphatic.
Of course, we also talked about some challenging aspects of working in the medical field – and how they affect finding and keeping young talents.
Lastly, I was very curious to hear what the title of her autobiography might be – but to find that out by yourself, you will have to listen to the episode of the podcast! It is available on all major platforms or directly on the Stern webpage. As always, I am looking forward to your feedback!
